Oculoplastic Surgery

An oculoplastic procedure is a type of surgery done around the eyes. You may have this procedure to correct a medical problem or for cosmetic reasons.

Oculoplastic procedures are done by eye doctors (ophthalmologists) who have special training in plastic or reconstructive surgery.

Conditions Treated

Oculoplastic procedures may be done on the:

  • Eyelids
  • Eye sockets
  • Eyebrows
  • Cheeks
  • Tear ducts
  • Face or forehead

These procedures treat many conditions. These include:

  • Droopy upper eyelids (ptosis)
  • Eyelids that turn inward (entropion) or outward (ectropion)
  • Eye problems caused by thyroid disease, such as Graves disease
  • Skin cancers or other growths in or around the eyes
  • Weakness around the eyes or eyelids caused by Bell palsy
  • Tear duct problems
  • Injuries to the eye or eye area
  • Birth defects of the eyes or orbit (the bone around the eyeball)
  • Cosmetic problems, such as excess upper lid skin, bulging lower lids, and “fallen” eyebrows

Dr. Wassia Khaja Ahmed, M.D.

Meet Dr. Wassia Khaja Ahmed

Dr. Wassia Khaja Ahmed MD is an oculoplastic surgeon and ophthalmologist who specializes in eyelid surgery. She is an expert in both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the face and eyelids. Dr. Khaja Ahmed is currently serving patients in the Oak Lawn and Buffalo Grove suburbs.

Here is a list of her commonly performed surgeries.

She subsequently pursued her medical degree at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas followed by a residency in ophthalmology at University of Florida. While at the University of Florida she was appointed Chief Resident in Ophthalmology and her clinical, surgical, and research interests in oculoplastics led her to a fellowship in oculoplastics and lacrimal/orbital diseases under the guidance of Dr. David Kostick at Florida Eye Specialists in Jacksonville. Dr. Khaja has been in practice for over 5 years and had performed over 4000 surgeries.
